‘A huge commitment to local food, sustainable fishing and serving up a flavour of the sea (right outside the cafe!) A well deserved award and don’t change a thing.’
This was just one of the quotes from Taste of the West this week as the Hive Beach Café scooped yet another prestigious award. The popular eating place, in Burton Bradstock, was awarded gold by judges to reflect the standard and sourcing of the food served. Other comments included:
- Extremely fresh fish, simply prepared.
- Cheerful, friendly staff – always busy!
- This is a beach cafe and the charm of it is, its relaxed, informal layout.
- A rare treat of a place in a unique location.
John Sheaves, Chief Executive of Taste of the West added, “I am delighted to see that this year we have seen a massive increase in the quality of the entries, which underlines our feeling that the industry has really started to embrace the ethos of sourcing top quality ingredients locally. I think we can now really boast a region which can offer something very creative and eye catching for the visitor, with top quality food and drink and great service!”
Taste of the West, established in 1991, is the regional food and drink trade organisation for the South West of England. As a membership organisation it works to develop the region’s exceptional regional food and drink industry and to be recognized at Gold Level is no mean feat. The Hive’s owner, Steve Attrill, has worked for over 20 years and continues his commitment to uniting the South West food chain in accordance with Taste of the West guidelines and ethos,

Congratulations on the award. As a regular visitor when I’m in the area I would say it is thoroughly deserved.
Dorset’s Golden Gate
I went to ‘The Hive’ for dinner
They delivered me, bliss on a plate
It has the perfect location
It’s Dorset’s Golden Gate
A succulent seafood platter
Matched by the view of the coast
The smell and the taste, even better
The chef had a right to boast
But chef, just stayed in the background
And let the food do the talking
So fresh, and recently caught
I’m surprised, it didn’t start walking
If you’re ever, in Burton Bradstock
And you have some, spare time up your sleeve
Pop along to, ‘The Hive Beach Cafe’
And you’ll never want to leave
