After the recent spell of cold, wet weather, today saw one of the largest cliff falls along this stretch of beach. The limestone cliffs came down around 12.30pm, with a large amount of rubble collapsing into the sea.
Two members of the public who were walking to the cafe from Eype were on the spot as it happened and were very shaken by the experience. They came in for a hot chocolate to help calm the nerves and explained what they had experienced.
Tim and Tamara were walking along the beach, which was at a very low tide today, so they were well down the beach towards the sea. As the neared the Hive they heard a cracking from the cliff face and Tim stopped, his instincts kicking in that something was about to happen. As they stood and watched, a massive amount of rubble rolled down the cliff, across the beach and into the sea. It all only took about 5 seconds.
Tamara is 6 months pregnant, so she was understandably shaken by the nearness of the cliff fall. After a hot drink, and some lunch, they were feeling a lot better.
It serves as a warning to everyone who walks the beach to be alert to what’s happening around you, especially at this time of year with the cold, wet and ice’y weather causing this erosion.

What a wonderful opportunity for geologists. Who knows what fossil treasures might be hidden in the rubble!
So glad they are safe and well
Wow, that was close Tim, never a dull moment. I know that Tam is pregnant and that the hot drink and lunch helped to eleviate the shock, I still would have found the nearest Pub for something a little stronger. Still glad your all safe.
