Hive Beach and Watch House Cafe’s – October News & Updates

Welcome to the first of our Autumn and Winter newsletters. The nights are drawing in and the cafe’s are at their cosiest at this time of year. It’s always great to be near to the sea and watch the waves but be snug indoors with a lovely hot chocolate or delicious coffee to sip at.

Changes to Opening Times

Our opening times have changed to match the season and we are no longer open in the evenings Burton Bradstock, although the Pizza oven is still baking at the Watch House in West Bay until 8pm on Friday’s and Saturday’s.

Hive Beach Cafe News

We’ll be on show with our famous Champagne and Oyster bar at the Eat Dorset Food Fair this coming weekend, so why not join us at Parnham House, just outside Beaminster and enjoy foods and drinks from across the region. Download and Print a Flyer about the fair.

We’ll also be launching our latest project at the Eat Dorset Food Fair; Silver Dreams is an iconic 1960′s Airstream Catering Trailer which can provide exclusive catering services to all your events and celebrations. More information will be coming soon.

Friday 28th September saw the cafe packed as everyone pitched in for the Macmillan Cancer Support ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’. Everyone took part and we had a guess the weight of a fruit cake baked by Bubbles competition, which was won by our very own Deputy Manager. We raised a fabulous £181 during the morning and want to say a huge thank you to everyone that took part.

For those of you still planning your Christmas celebrations, why not come down and join us. The feast available is sumptuous so why not download our Christmas Menu and the booking form from the website and start planning today.

Our Fruit and Veg Exchange has got off to a great start with lots of customers bringing in their additional allotment produce to exchange for a coffee voucher. If you have a surplus of marrows or courgettes, why not bring them down to us instead of letting them go to waste.

Watch House Cafe Updates

For the first time in many years the Watch House Cafe will be open during the Winter, although our hours will change in November. The newly installed heaters in our brand new awning are perfect for keeping the cold out and the heat in and we’re sure you’ll enjoy a lovely hot drink or meal after a bracing walk on the beach.

How do you fancy a fabulous night out at one of our Christmas Party Evenings with exclusive use of the cafe from 7pm at each one, it’s the perfect place to celebrate in relaxed beach side venue.

Since we had a sighting off the beach here of a 6 foot blue shark we decided to put up ‘wildlife sighting’ board that any of our visitors can update with any news they have. So far, we’ve had sightings of more sharks and various migrations and feedings.
Update from the Village – by Elaine

Burton Bradstock library has been under threat of closure for several years.  “The Friends of Burton Bradstock Library” was established in 2007 and has worked tirelessly under the Chairmanship of Professor Bob Hynds to save the Library. Final negotiations  to keep the Library open have recently taken place,  the Parish Council has  signed a 99 year lease at a peppercorn rent with a view to running the library  as a community space.  In the coming months the library will be staffed by local volunteers with a 3 hour a week contribution by Dorset Council staff to deal with technical issues. You can find out more about the campaign that kept this part of community going on the website.
