The Hive Beach Café is located right on the beach at Burton Bradstock on the Jurassic Coast, with far-reaching views across Lyme Bay and Chesil Beach. It's the perfect location to enjoy fresh, local seafood, homemade cakes or just a simple cup of tea.
Our mission is to use locally sourced, sustainable ingredients and to support local suppliers wherever possible. When available we serve fish straight from the very shoreline you’ll be eating on. As a result, our comprehensive menu slowly evolves through the seasons.
Now in its' 29th year of trading, the café has become a popular and well-established eatery favoured by locals and holidaymakers alike. With our sister café 'The Watch House Café' in West Bay in its' 10th year and our most recently opened restaurant 'The Club House' along the coast in West Bexington, the Hive brand has spread along the rugged West Dorset coastline over the years, always offering quality seafood infused menus in some of the finest locations.
We’re happy to accommodate large parties of diners and we’re dog-friendly but we don’t take reservations so it’s advisable to arrive a little early for lunch as we do get busy!
On fine spring days, you can enjoy panoramic views of Lyme Bay from the tables outside the Beach Hut. We serve lovely ice cream from the West Country and our house blend Dibar coffee. We even have a signature ice cream flavour – Hive Honeycomb!
Beach Hut opening times during the summer months are weather dependant.
The Jurassic Coast, 95 miles of spectacular coastline holding 185 million years of the Earth’s history - no wonder it is such a popular location with locals and tourists alike and features amongst sought after set locations for filmmakers. We are very fortunate to call this little slice of heaven our home, and we care about it greatly, holding regular beach cleans and minimising our impact on the environment as much as possible whilst showcasing this spectacular and unique World Heritage site.
Our vision is to continue to serve our customers with fresh, locally & ethically sourced produce, loving prepared in inspiring coastal locations. We will continue to constantly monitor our products and processes to remain as environmentally aware and sustainable as possible.
What we have achieved so far:
Oil – collected and turned into fuel, tarmac and soap
Use local suppliers wherever possible to reduce our carbon footprint
Constantly monitor our products and processes to see what we can do to lessen our impact on the environment
All cardboard and packaging is crushed and recycled
Taking part in regular beach cleans
Stopped selling beach inflatables
Reducing single-use plastic - we've changed to using paper straws, paper bags and canned water
Changed our hand wipes to a plastic -free version
Glass is collected to be recycled
Vegetable suppliers deliver produce in re-usable crates.
Vegetables grown in The Club House veggie garden are used across all sites
