At this time of year, our opening times are weather dependent so do call for updates if you plan to visit.

Welcome to the Hive

One of the Best Seafood Cafés on the Beach in Dorset

Come and eat at our fabulous seafood Café located on the Chesil Bank, at Hive Beach, Burton Bradstock near Bridport in Dorset, offering some of the best views of Lyme bay and the iconic Jurassic Coast.

. The Café offers a vast range of local foods and fish. The fish counter is on view as soon as you walk into the Café and our chefs are at hand to answer any questions regarding the fish on display.

We’re currently planning our exciting external events programme for 2014 so if you can’t get down to the Café, then perhaps you’ll bump into us at one of the food festivals or events as we take the ‘Hive on Tour’ to towns & villages across Dorset and the South West!

Al Fresco Dining by the Beach

Al Fresco

Outside the main café area you will find our famed awnings and an extensive patio area making it accessible for wheelchair / pushchairs and just to make life a bit easier there’s around 140 chairs to choose from, inside and out. We extended the awning in late 2008 giving us more inside space for the winter months which has already proved invaluable over the busy Christmas period. Our famous awnings which caught the imagination of AA Gill (Read review…) when we were given 4 stars in the The Sunday Times Style magazine. Since then we have had many accolades in national magazines and newspapers.

Local Shellfish by the Seaside

During the summer months we offer a selection of shellfish, spider crabs off our own beach, brown crabs from Lyme Bay and when possible hand dived scallops, a must to have while sitting on Dorset’s beautiful World Heritage coast watching the sea and enjoying a bottle wine.

Homemade Food in the Café

Inside you will find our cake counter filled with a selection of homemade cakes and locally made biscuits. Behind the counter on the walls the chalk menu tells you what’s on offer. It’s always best to be a bit early to get the best pick of the fish, ask at the counter if you have any special requirements, we will be pleased to help. The team of staff at the Hive will always welcome you with a smile and work hard to make your visit as pleasurable as possible. Read what people say about us on our Reviews page…

For All the Family

The café extends its warm welcome to everyone; families, children and your dogs are welcome to come and join in the fun. We cater for the whole family so if you and your little ones have forgotten their bucket and spade or want a try at body boarding our cheerful staff will help you out, don’t forget the sunscreen!

Ice Cream Parlour

The ice cream parlour is mainly open in the summer months serving delicious Lovington’s ice cream. The Hive even has one of Lovington’s flavours named after it Hive Honeycombe. They produce many more gorgeous flavours, too many to mention here so why not visit the parlour and let us know your favourite.

Fresh Coffee

The parlour also serves fresh Dibar coffee and a selection of cold drinks, always worth remembering if the patio area is full.  And don’t forget you can buy the coffee beans or pods to take home with you, or even buy them online.
